Tiny home proposal near Surfside Beach, Garden City create large concerns for neighbors Oct. 16th, 2019

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County sees plenty of large housing development proposals, but the houses some neighbors near Surfside Beach and Garden City are concerned about aren’t big at all.

They’re a national trend that are getting larger, even with their own TV shows: tiny homes

Myrtlewood Realty Associates is looking to put 221 tiny homes on about 25 acres of land off Kings Highway next to Tupelo Bay Golf Center. The houses would be between 600 and 2,000 square feet in size.

In an 8-2 vote, Horry County Council passed second reading of the proposal Tuesday night. Council members Dennis DiSabato and Tyler Servant were not at the meeting. Council must pass one more reading before it’s approved.

Fayetteville to tackle homelessness with tiny home community Oct. 7th, 2019

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — The Fayetteville City Council passed a proposal Monday night that could help put the homeless to work and give them homes.The first component is a tiny homes community which would tackle chronic homelessness throughout Fayetteville.

The second component is a workforce partnership which would give the jobs to the homeless.

This Hotel Is Made Up Entirely of Tiny Houses Sept.19th, 2019

A little off I-95 in Rocky Mount, N.C., on the site of an old cotton mill, you’ll find a brand-new boutique hotel. Or, rather, a new hotel entirely made up of tiny houses.

Rocky Mount Mills was constructed in 1816. It was the second cotton mill to open in a state where the textile industry would be prominent for over 100 years. The property was burned by Union troops during the Civil War and rebuilt twice after that and another fire before it was eventually shut down in 1996.

New Housing Plan Launched Sept. 27th, 2019

Efforts to address the desperate need for affordable housing in Haywood County have languished for nearly a decade, with meetings, a task force report and a countywide housing committee failing to make much progress.

Mountain Projects, Inc. has come up with a plan that could be a game-changer.

The Smoky Mountain Housing Partnership will be division of Mountain Projects that will start out building 35 single family homes in the Jonathan Creek area, start a small community of “tiny homes” that will be in the 400- to 800-square-foot range and set up a center that will work with potential homeowners.

Boone leaders reviewing 235 R3, R4 parcels for potential rezoning Sept. 24th, 2019

Boone Town Council Member Sam Furgiuele proposed a review of all R3 and R4 properties that had not been developed for multi-family and their surrounding uses at the Jan. 8, 2018, planning retreat — a meeting of the Boone Town Council and town Planning & Inspections Department staff. At the same meeting, he also proposed the creation of a new zoning district for cottage housing and tiny homes, which could be used as a transition between high- and low-density areas and would provide more diverse and affordable housing.

Asheville City Council plans affordable housing, hotel moratorium discussions July 25th, 2019

On Friday, Sept. 6, said Council member Julie Mayfield, the city will hold an affordable housing work session to explore options such as tiny homes and housing voucher acceptance for long-term rentals. Her declaration came in response to public comment from Drew Crawford, owner of Asheville-based DIY Tiny, who proposed using tiny houses on wheels to address affordable housing shortages.
